Snowpiercer Movie Poster

I was tasked to create 2 posters for a film of my selection – Snowpiercer (2013) – one digitally designed and the other handmade, of which I decided on lino printing.

My approach of designing the posters were strategic in conveying the message of the film and portray the underlying themes that can be seen throughout the film. I also made sure to incorporate relevant elements from the film into the design of the poster.

For the lino printed poster, I wanted to overwhelm the eye by having relevant elements of the film potrayed in a symmetrical and clean way which would complement the raw touches of the linocut that would portray the overarching theme of dystopia.

As for the digital illustrated poster, I made reference to Dance II by Henri Matisse as it is able to also convey meaning behind the story since not only are the characters hand in hand as they going through the motions and and connected together as they advance in the story, but also they are dancing in circles around the engine like how their lives all forever revolves around the engine of the train which circles the track continuously. Furthermore, this depiction as a good metaphor to portray the themes displayed in the movie because although there may be differences between the people of the train, such as by class divide or morals, the people on the train are still stuck with each other and have to work with one another in some way for them to survive in the train.
